Barcelona and Manchester United close to De Jong deal, it's now down to the player

Barcelona and Manchester United have stepped up their negotiations in recent days and are close to reaching an agreement for the transfer of Frenkie de Jong.

Frenkie de Jong: "Estoy en el club más grande del mundo y me siento bien allí"

The latest offer made by the English club was 65 million euros plus additional variables. Barcelona, for their part, want to receive the money they paid Ajax for the transfer of the player which amounts to 75 million euros plus 11 million in variables.

Manchester United are willing to reach 86 million in total, but it remains to be seen how the fixed sums and variable amounts will be distributed.

The clubs aren't far apart and an agreement could be reached in the next few days.

But that will be just the first step of the deal. Then Manchester United have the task of convincing De Jong to leave Barcelona.

United coach Erik ten Hag, for his part, has promised De Jong that he will be key to his new project in Manchester and that the team will revolve around him.

The player likes the idea, but he is not convinced. He has always wanted to succeed at Barcelona and this is still something he wants to do.

Barcelona will have to sit with the player and explain that the best thing for them is that he goes to the Premier League club.

The Catalans have a lot of financial problems and need the money from the transfer. It is also a way of freeing up some room with salaries, and will allow them to go for the signings that Xavi Hernandez has asked for. The player is currently on holiday in the United States.

The footballer's contract will also increase next season as he is set to receive around 20 million euros for the deferred payments that he had pending.
