Castellanos pushes NYCFC past RBNY with his 13th goal this season

New York City FC defeated New York Red Bulls on Sunday at Red Bull Arena with a second-half goal by Valentin Castellanos.

Castellanos, 23, scored his 13th goal of the season to lead all MLS scorers, ahead of four players at No. 2 with 11 goals.

NYCFC controlled the entire match with 65% possession and five more shots (9) on target.

The Hudson River Derby saw no goals in the first half, with Castellanos breaking the deadlock in the 68th minute.

Castellanos' goal was a first-touch shot from a long pass by Santiago Rodriguez.

Castellanos making NYCFC history

Castellanos is already making history for NYCFC as he's 32 goals away from reaching David Villa as the club's all-time leading scorer.

His goal against RBNY keeps NYCFC in second place of the Eastern Conference with 38 points.

RBNY, meanwhile, are in third place of the East with 33 points, six points shy of first place Philadelphia Union.

NYCFC host Inter Miami on Saturday as RBNY visit Austin FC on Sunday.
