Messi faced with a decision over his future: Back to Barcelona, Inter Miami or PSG?

Leo Messi ticked the World Cup off his list of possible achievements but, after plenty of celebrations, he will have to consider his future.

Barcelona are watching the situation closely, with Messi's contract at Paris Saint-Germain finishing at the end of the season.

He has the option to extend in Paris for another season, return to his beloved Barcelona or move to MLS and Inter Miami.

Last dance in Barcelona?

In the early hours of the morning, Barcelona president Joan Laporta posted a message in Catalan on Twitter: "Congratulations, Leo! You deserve it. Football owed you this moment."

The Blaugrana president had planned to travel to the World Cup final, but at the last minute decided to stay in Barcelona. There had been speculation that the trip might be used to sound out the situation of his future but, in the end, considered that it was neither the time nor the place for this type of gesture.

Laporta, who promised during the election campaign that brought him to the presidency that he would try everything to keep Messi at Barcelona, knows that he failed Barcelona and Messi. The Argentinian, who broke all the records as a Blaugrana, left in tears.

The debts accumulated during Josep Maria Bartomeu's tenure made the operation impossible. Next June, Messi's contract with PSG expires and his future is unknown.

In any case, Messi knows that Barcelona were the club that gave him everything, the first one that believed in him, that paid him that treatment of 1,500 dollars a month for years; but also the one he repaid tenfold: 35 titles (4 Champions Leagues, 10 LaLiga titles, 7 Copa del Rey, 3 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups and 8 Spanish Super Cups).

Miami: reunion with old friends

Another option for Leo Messi would be a golden retirement in Miami, to taste the 'glamour' of MLS, where the level of demand is different.

The team, founded by David Beckham, have not hidden their desire to sign him, and Messi already owns a property there.

If he accepts Beckham's offer, Messi could be paid around $14 million a year and Inter Miami are also linked with his close friends Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez.

Paris for one more season...

Just before the final, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi revealed that he had met with Leo Messi's entourage towards the end of the World Cup to discuss his continuity.

After a tough first season, he has excelled at the start of the second and could be tempted for another campaign in Europe to win the Champions League.
