Messi stays grounded despite his magical night: 'I don't know if this is my best World Cup'

Even though he is already 35 years of age, this FIFA World Cup is shaping up to become Lionel Messi's tournament. After scoring one goal and delivering one of football history's greatest assists, Leo spoke to the press after the final whistle. Every single time journalists approach him, he gets a little flustered when praised as the best ever. Leo has always shown respect for legends from the past and never mentions himself as the best. When asked if this was the best World Cup of his career, Leo stuck to his style.

Here's what he told the press right after reaching his second final: "A lot of things are going through my head. Very excited to see all this. We have experienced something incredible during the whole World Cup. Now there is only one game to go. Is this my best World Cup? I don't know. I've been enjoying it for a while now. Since we arrived in Qatar we have enjoyed a lot. We started off losing against Saudi Arabia, but we always had faith. Who am I thinking about at the moment? My family. They are the most important thing for me. We've had good times and bad times, but now it's time for another great moment."

Messi wins Man of the Match, again...

If any of us had any doubts, Messi was just named Man of the Match for the fourth time in this FIFA World Cup. No other player has done this in the tournament. He scored goals in every single knock-out stage so far and assisted Julian Alvarez with that moment of genius. People who love Messi were starting to feel they wouldn't enjoy the same version of Leo that destroyed defensive lines at FC Barcelona for so many years. His World Cup stint is obliterating these doubts. Few will doubt Leo after this, perhaps only die hard Madridistas or people who think Ronaldo is better.

Granted, he still has to play that final and win it, it would kill all doubts about his GOAT status. It going to be either France of Morocco. No matter who plays Argentina in the final, we can already rank this World Cup performance as his best. We will have to wait until Sunday to see if the Argentina captain can get his fairytale ending after so many attempts to reach the top.
