There was a surprise at the Puskas Arena in Budapest as Hungary claimed a famous 1-0 victory over England thanks to a Dominik Szoboszlai penalty.

The win ends a 60-year winless streak for Hungary against England, and they did so in style in what was their Nations League A debut. The home side made the most of their physical style, and rarely suffered in defence thanks to a standout performance by Attila Szalai, who neutralised Harry Kane all match.

The two star players had wildly different performances on Saturday. The RB Leipzig man was the focal point for Hungary, as his teammates searched for him at every opportunity.

Szoboszlai played the ball out from deep, stepped up to take the penalty, tracked back to defend and helped Hungary keep their cool during their worst moment of the match, which only came in the closing minutes.

Kane, on the other hand, had a quiet outing. Despite his best efforts, it just wasn't his day as he failed to convert two clear cut chances.

Having scored 13 goals in his last 12 matches for England, Kane left the Puskas Arena empty-handed. A big reason for that was the wall put up by Szalai.

The unexpected defeat against the 'weakest' team in the group leaves England on uneven footing. Their next two matches are against two European powers in Germany and Italy. While there is still time to get back on track, Gareth Southgate has some work ahead of him.
