Champions League Matchday 5: PSG beats Liverpool, Real win against Roma

No fewer than seven clubs have booked the knockout stage ticket on Tuesday in the Champions League. Defending champions Real Madrid, AS Roma, Bayern Munich, Ajax Amsterdam, Manchester City, Juventus and Manchester United have already made it to the knockout stage with just one round to go, joining FC Barcelona, who are already in the final stages of qualifying.

Real won 2-0 in Rome and finished first in Group G. The second place goes to the Italians because CSKA Moscow conceded against Viktoria Pilsen a 1: 2 home defeat. Manchester City made it 2-2 to progress in Group F at Olympique Lyon. In addition, Juventus (1-0 against Valencia) and Manchester United (1-0 against Young Boys Bern) have their second round qualificaiton in their pockets - as Bayern have a home 5-1 over Benfica Lisbon and Ajax Amsterdam due to a 2: 0 away win against AEK Athens.

Paris Saint-Germain scored an important victory in the so-called "death group" of Champions League and put Liverpool in a bad spot. France's champions defeated last season's finalists 2-1 (2-1) on Wednesday evening, earning the opportunity to reach the knockout stage. The English are just third in the table before the final round. At the top of the group is Napoli, who earned the home victory by beating Red Star Belgrade 3-1. The Italians have nine points, PSG follows with eight, Liverpool with six. In the final game day on December 11, Liverpool will face Napoli at Anfield, while PSG will be at the bottom in Belgrade.

Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04 and FC Porto have the ticket for the knockout stage in the bag after the wednesday games.
