Formula 1 - Sebastian Vettel beats Hamilton in Spa
Sebastian Vettel kept a cool head after yesterday's qualifying chaos and won the first key race in the World Championship duel with Mercedes World Champion Lewis Hamilton at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa.
On the high-speed track in the Ardennes, Vettel took advantage of the superior strength of his Ferrari engine and recovered with his 5 win of the season seven points on championship leader Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton leads before the next race in Monza with 231 points in front of Vettel with 214. For Vettel it was the 52nd victory of his career and the third in Spa after 2011 and 2013, and is has now one more than the four-time world champion Alain Prost (51). His comment: "Wow"
Most recently, the four-time World Champion won Silverstone at the beginning of July, after which Hamilton won at Hockenheim and Budapest.
"Lewis got off to a good start, but I knew my time on the straights is uphill after the uphill section," said a visibly excited Vettel, "Lewis put a lot of pressure, but I knew I could be faster." Hamilton had "done what I could and now we'll see what happens next week."
Immediately after the start it crashed in turn 1! Right in the middle: Fernando Alonso, Nico Hülkenberg, Charles Leclerc, but also Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo.
