Goodbye Legend! Big Farewell For Formula 1 Champion Niki Lauda

Family, fans and friends have said farewell to the Formula 1 legend in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.

At eight o'clock in the morning, the closed casket was laid out in the Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral. The Priest blessed him in the presence of Lauda's wife Birgit and two of his sons.

After that, mourners were allowed to say goodbye until noon. The crowd was huge, despite the terrible weather, thousands of people have been queuing since morning to pay homage to the Formula One legend.

Afterwards, the memorial service took place in St. Stephen's Cathedral with around 500 invited guests of honor.

Motorsport greats like Lewis Hamilton, Jean Todt, Chase Carey and Dr. Helmut Marko said goodbye to Lauda. Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, DTM boss Gerhard Berger and ex-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger gave speeches before Lauda's casket was carried out of the cathedral in the presence of family and companions.

Lauda was buried at a smaller ceremony later in the day.
