Manchester United 0-2 Atalanta LIVE - Latest Updates

This is the start of our Manchester United vs Atalanta live blog, with our updates from this Champions League night following on from here. As always, the entries nearest the top are the most recent ones.

Minute 44: Fred fires wide

Some good passing play between Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Fred results in the Brazilian firing a right-footed shot wide of Musso's goal from a yard or so inside the area.

Minute 42: Incredible tackle by Demiral

Marcus Rashford was one on one with Musso and looked a guarantee to score, but Demiral came out of nowhere and successfully made a last-ditch tackle to take the ball away from the United forward. He then followed that up with a Chiellini-esque celebration. You love to see it.

Minute 36: Cristiano Ronaldo appeals for a penalty

Cristiano Ronaldo came in from the left-hand side of the box and, under the lightest of contact from Demiral, the off-balanced forward fired his shot miles wide of Musso's goal. It was never going to be a penalty, despite Cristiano's appeals.

Minute 29: GOAL FOR ATALANTA!

From Koopmeiners' corner, Demiral rose above Maguire and used the pace on the cross to send a bullet header past De Gea. Manchester United 0-2 Atalanta.

Minute 20: Musso saves Fred's shot

Bruno Fernandes failed to make a strong enough contact with Cristiano Ronaldo's cross from the right, and that gave the chance for Fred to get a shot away at goal, but Musso did well to tip it over the bar.

Minute 15: GOAL FOR ATALANTA!

A well-worked Atalanta move led to Zappacosta firing in a low cross from the right, which Pasalic converted from a couple of yards out. Manchester United 0-1 Atalanta.

Minute 14: Early change for Atalanta?

Matteo Lovato is getting ready to come on, so Atalanta's defensive problems might be about to get even worse. With Djimsiti and Rafael Toloi both out, it looks like Demiral might be forced off.

Minute 11: End-to-end stuff

Manchester United are looking dangerous whenever they attack, but Atalanta are also posing a threat on the counter-attack. There seems to be a lot space, particularly in midfield.

Minute 3: Strong start by United

McTominay carried the ball forward from midfield and played Rashford in behind, but he fired his shot wide of Musso's goal. It wouldn't have counted if it went in, though, as Rashford was offside.

18:00 BST: Manchester United vs Atalanta preview

After failing to taste victory in either of their last two Premier League duels with Everton and Leicester City, Manchester United will look to get back to winning ways in their Champions League clash with Atalanta at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The Red Devils were outplayed by Brendan Rodgers' side on Saturday in their 4-2 defeat away at the King Power Stadium, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once more at the receiving end of criticism for his tactics.

After losing 2-1 in their Champions League opener against Young Boys, the Red Devils managed a 2-1 comeback victory against Villarreal in Manchester and this game is considered a must-win duel ahead of a very tough series of fixtures for United.

Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford have both returned to action after recovering from their respective injuries, but Raphael Varane, Amad Diallo and Anthony Martial will miss out on the Atalanta clash.

As for the Serie A side, none of Rafael Toloi, Hans Hateboer, Robin Gosens, Matteo Pessina or Berat Djimsiti will be at Gian Piero Gasperini's disposal, as all five are sidelined through injuries.

Manchester United vs Atalanta predicted line-ups

Manchester United's predicted line-up (4-2-3-1): David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw; Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba; Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford; Cristiano Ronaldo.

Atalanta's predicted line-up (3-4-2-1): Juan Musso; Matteo Lovato, Jose Luis Palomino, Merih Demiral; Davide Zappacosta, Remo Freuler, Marten de Roon, Joakim Maehle; Ruslan Malinovskyi, Josip Ilicic; Duvan Zapata.
