Despite McGregor now being sat comfortably atop the Forbes highest earning athlete list for 2021, the scenario wasn't the same five years ago.

In 2016, while preparing for his rematch fight against Nate Diaz, Cristiano Ronaldo visited McGregor at his gym and the pair exchanged some words about who would be the richest in years to come.

"You were number one on the Forbes list. I was like number 35 or something. I'll get up. Maybe next year I'll get you," McGregor told the Manchester United star.

"I don't think so," Ronaldo replied.

Five years later, McGregor can finally sit back and smile.
