Real Madrid next match vs Athletic Club postponed

Real Madrid's next game will be on Tuesday, October 19, against Shakhtar Donetsk and not this weekend against Athletic Club after the National Sports Council (CSD) postponed that game, along with Granada vs Atletico Madrid.

Just as when two games were suspended on Matchday 4 in LaLiga Santander after the last international break, the reasoning here is exactly the same: CONEMBOL players returning late wouldn't be able to take part, so the games have been moved.

The decision looks set to generate controversy once again, however, not least for the fact that it was taken by the CSD, a government body, and not the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Last time, when Sevilla vs Barcelona and Villarreal vs Alaves were postponed, the RFEF formally challenged the CSD's decision, to no avail, and they are said to be considering their options again.

The only certainty is that there are now four LaLiga Santander games in need of rearranging. It is a situation that is surely untenable as the LaLiga calendar shouldn't have to be put under this pressure because of CONEMBOL scheduling.
