WC Qualifiers: Robin Gosens injured, doubtful for Germany against Romania

Robin Gosens was a breakout player for Germany at this summer’s European Championship. Unfortunately, the Atalanta defender injured himself this week in the Champions League clash against Young Boys.

Just seven minutes into the match Gosens was rolling on the pitch in pain. The 27-year-old apparently hurt himself while kicking the pitch. He immediately grabbed his left thigh and clasped his hands in front of his face in pain. The team staff made the easy decision to take him out of the match as he left the field in tears.

This is bad news for Atalanta as well as the German national team. Hansi Flick surely has plans for the Atalanta defender as he started against Liechtenstein and was subbed on against Iceland in the last international break.

“It’s a muscle injury in the thigh, but not that bad. We hope that Robin will be available to us again after the international break,” Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini said after the game.

There is now a risk that he will miss the World Cup qualifying matches against Romania and North Macedonia on October 8th and 11th, respectively.
