Vinicius gives Real Madrid the lead

Real Madrid will be looking to get on track when they face Elche at the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero this Saturday afternoon (13:00 BST), following a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Osasuna in midweek. The LaLiga Santander table is very tight right now, and Real Madrid will have the chance to go top with a victory. Elche come into this game after picking up just one point from a possible nine in their last three games, but the Martinez Valero has been something of a fortress this season as they have only lost one of their six games there to this point. Stay with us for all the build-up to Elche vs Real Madrid and then updates from the match itself.

Elche 0-1 Real Madrid - Latest Updates

This is the start of our Elche vs Real Madrid live blog, with our updates from this LaLiga Santander fixture following on from here. As always, the entries nearest the top are the most recent ones.

Minute 38: Elche causing danger

Lucas Boye's shot from 25 yards or so out was comfortably saved by Courtois, but moments later, Alaba dallied on the ball and that gave Boye the chance to win the ball back. Pastore then flicked the ball back towards Lucas Perez, but he didn't make a good contact and sent his shot wide.

Minute 30: Elche staying calm

Despite being one goal down, Elche are not panicking and are continuing to play their football. Still, Real Madrid look dangerous whenever they attack, particularly when the move goes through Vinicius.

Mojica's loose pass was intercepted by Casemiro and sent first time into Mariano, who provided a first-time flick into the path of Vinicius, which led to the Brazilian taking a touch before firing a left-footed shot across goal. Elche 0-1 Real Madrid.

Minute 19: Boye stings Courtois' hand

Lucas Boye ran at Alaba, shimmied and fired a powerful effort towards goal, but Courtois' quick reactions saw him get a strong hand to it. Really good save by the Real Madrid goalkeeper.

Minute 17: Asensio replaces Rodrygo

Rodrygo is unable to continue, so he has been replaced by Marco Asensio. It's a shame for the Brazilian, as he was looking dangerous at the start of this match.

Minute 15: End-to-end stuff

This is increasingly looking like a basketball match, with each Elche attack being met by one from Real Madrid. Rodrygo just got his second shot of the game away, with it going comfortably wide, but he seems to have done himself some damage and has had to come over to the sidelines.

Minute 10: Elche growing into the match

Elche have had a few attacking moves in the last few minutes and are shifting the ball around in a confident manner. Real Madrid, despite Rodrygo's early shot, seem to be easing their way into the match.

Minute 2: Rodrygo tests his luck

Early on in this game, Rodrygo Goes received the ball a few yards outside the box and tested Kiko Casilla with a well-hit shot, but the Elche goalkeeper parried it away.

12:10 BST: Elche's XI

Fran Escriba has made one change from the Elche side that lost 1-0 to Alaves, with Javier Pastore coming in for Tete Morente.

Elche's starting line-up vs Real Madrid (4-4-2): Kiko Casilla; Helibelton Palacios, Enzo Roco, Pedro Bigas, Johan Mojica; Fidel Chaves, Omar Mascarell, Raul Guti, Javier Pastore; Lucas Perez, Lucas Boye.

11:45 BST: Real Madrid's XI

Ancelotti maintained the majority of the XI from the last couple of games, but Marcelo and Mariano have come into the side.

Real Madrid's starting line-up vs Elche (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Lucas Vazquez, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Marcelo; Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Luka Modric; Rodrygo Goes, Mariano Diaz, Vinicius Junior.

11:30 BST: Marcelo and Mariano set to start

Despite everything indicating that it would be Luka Jovic who starts in place of Karim Benzema, COPE's Miguel Angel Diaz reports that it will be Mariano Diaz instead. Also, Marcelo is set to start at left-back.

11:15 BST: Jovic's chance to shine

There was a lot of excitement that came with Luka Jovic's arrival at Real Madrid in the summer of 2020, but the Serbian striker has not been able to get his Los Blancos career off the ground to this point. In 38 games for the club he has managed just two goals and three assists, so, in the absence of Karim Benzema against Elche, he will look to take his chance at the Martinez Valero if Ancelotti names him in the starting line-up.

11:00 BST: Real Madrid to wear their away kit

The Real Madrid players' kits are all laid out at the Martinez Valero ahead of this afternoon's game. Real Madrid will today wear their blue away kit.

10:30 BST: Elche vs Real Madrid preview

After struggling to break down Osasuna's solid defence at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday and failing to grab all three points on home soil, Real Madrid will try to get back to winning ways in their game away at Elche on Saturday afternoon.

Carlo Ancelotti's side are currently sitting second in the LaLiga Santander table with one game in hand after drawing 0-0 with Osasuna in midweek.

Luka Modric has trained normally with the rest of his teammates and is expected to return to the starting line-up after missing out on the Osasuna due to a muscle issue.

Gareth Bale, Dani Ceballos and Fede Valverde are all sidelined due to injury, but Isco has fully recovered and trained with the group on Thursday.

Ancelotti did cause some surprise by not including Karim Benzema in the squad list for this Saturday's match, but the club insist that he is only being rested. Therefore, there is the chance for Luka Jovic for try and impress his coach as the No.9 in the team.

Meanwhile, Ancelotti is expected to field the majority of the starting line-up that he used against Osasuna, with Luka Modric taking Eduardo Camavinga's spot in the starting XI.

As for Elche, Pablo Piatti could be the only absentee due to a knock so coach Fran Escriba is expected to have the rest of the squad at his disposal for Saturday's clash.
