Al Sadd block Barcelona: We can't let Xavi leave at this sensitive time of the season

It is no secret that Barcelona want to hire Xavi as their new permanent coach, to replace Ronald Koeman and to take over from caretaker Sergi Barjuan as soon as possible, but Al Sadd are refusing to let the Catalan leave.

The Qatari club's CEO Turki Al-Ali has released a short statement this Wednesday, the day on which members of Barcelona's board travelled to Doha to meet with Al Sadd representatives.

"We welcome the visit of the administrative delegation from Barcelona and we appreciate and respect this," Turki Al-Ali's statement started.

"The club's position is clear from the beginning. We are committed to keeping our coach Xavi with us and we cannot have him leave at this sensitive time of the season."

Al Sadd have an important match this Wednesday evening as they face rivals Al Duhail, who are just three points behind Xavi's side in the Qatari league.
