Concern at PSG over Messi fitness setback

Caution is being taken with Lionel Messi at Paris Saint-Germain. Before Friday's game against Lille, Messi had been suffering from some discomfort. He did go on to start the game, but he had to be replaced at half time by Mauro Icardi, as those problems wouldn't leave him alone during the first half at the Parc des Princes.

Mauricio Pochettino has since explained the reasons for taking the Argentine off despite PSG trailing at home at the break.

"We decided with the doctor," Pochettino said.

"It was a precautionary move and that's why we changed. We hope he's available for the Champions League game against RB Leipzig."

Messi's knee injury

According to L'Equipe, Messi is also suffering with a knee problem on top of those muscular concerns. The club's doctors are monitoring him closely and he worked with a physiotherapist on Sunday, aiming to face RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

As things stand, it's thought that Messi will be able to feature, but Pochettino won't take any unnecessary risks with his fitness.

Kylian Mbappe, meanwhile, is expected to play after missing the game against Lille.
