Knicks snap Hawks' win streak in first meeting since Trae Young's bow at MSG

Actualizado

The New York Knicks beat the Atlanta Hawks to snap their 7-game winning streak in the first meeting since Trae Young took a bow at Madison Square Garden during the first round of last year's playoffs. Julius Randle struggled all game long, but Alec Burks and Evan Fournier had 23 and 20 points, respectively, to claw out the win.

Cam Reddish left the floor early with a sprained left wrist and Bogdan Bogdanovic limped off the court with an apparent right foot injury, leaving Atlanta undermanned for most of the match. Bogdanovic's injury seemed to be a lot more serious than Reddish's, as he needed help getting to the locker room.

Knicks were without injured Kemba Walker and Derrick Rose, but Burks put the team on his back, regardless. Burks scored 4 of 7 shots from three with 15 points in the third quarter.

Young was putting on a show all night long in front of his fans at State Farm Arena, going 10-22 from the field with 5 triples on 10 shots from beyond the arc. Clint Capela scored 16 with 21 rebounds and 3 blocks, but the Hawks failed to capitalize in the fourth quarter.

2 points in the 4th for Young

Hawks went into the final 12 minutes of play down by 11 points. Young sat out the first three minutes of the fourth quarter with 31 points, and only managed two more points in the final seconds of play.

Despite Young's lack of scoring down the stretch, John Collins and Capela chipped away at the score. Unfortunately for the Hawks, it was not enough to keep their winning streak alive.

There was no energy from either side in the final minutes of play, but any time Randle goes 3-14 from the field for 8 points, the opponent should get the win. That was not the case this time, and Hawks head coach Nate McMillan would surely love to run this game back.

Both teams had games the night before, with the Knicks losing at home to the Phoenix Suns, and Atlanta beating the Memphis Grizzlies without Ja Morant for most of the game. Hawks will now travel to Indiana to face the Pacers on Wednesday, and Knicks will face cross-town rivals, Brooklyn Nets, on Tuesday.
