Manchester United emergency meeting: Solskjaer's reign nears conclusion

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's era as Manchester United manager could be over very soon, as the club's board have reportedly called an emergency meeting to discuss the Norwegian's future.

The under-fire Red Devils boss apologised to fans immediately after a 4-1 defeat away at newly promoted Watford, United's fifth loss in seven games.

According to the Times, the emergency meeting has been scheduled for 19:00 GMT, with Solskjaer's replacement high on the agenda.

"I work so hard and the best that I can, but at the moment we are not getting the results. I feel very bad, but I think we can turn it around," said Solskjaer following United's loss at Vicarage Road.

Manchester United want Zidane

Top of their shortlist is supposedly former Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane, who has been without work since he left the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu last May.

Zidane's managerial CV shows an impressive three Champions League triumphs and two La Liga Santander titles during his time at Real Madrid, and it is that winning mentality that the Glazer family, Manchester United's owners, want at Old Trafford.

The 4-1 defeat on Saturday was compounded by captain Harry Maguire getting sent off with the score just 2-1, ending any hopes of a late comeback before Watford scored twice in added time.

"I have never said that I feel safe, I will never say that I feel safe. I am working for and with the club. I have been here for 18 years and we have good communication," Solskjaer added.

"If the club is thinking of doing something, it is a conversation between us and not between you and me. I am not worried about [losing my job]."

The 48-year-old Norwegian said this before news of the emergency board meeting emerged and his time at Old Trafford as a manager could be over before their crucial Champions League game away at Villarreal on Tuesday night.
