Otis Anderson Jr: Former UCF star killed in Northdside by father

Former University of Central Florida and University Christian football star Otis Anderson Jr. died in a double shooting Monday night. According to News4JAX, it also left a woman hospitalized.

After the shooting, a 52-year-old man named Otis Lee Anderson was booked into Duval County Jail on Tuesday morning and charged with second-degree murder, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office records reported.

What happened?

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said it happened around 9:30 p.m. near the Forest Trails area by I-295 and Dunn Avenue.

When police arrived, they found a man and a woman shot. The man, the one UCF fans called "Juice," died at the hospital. The woman, his mother Denise, was also shot.

Anderson's father, Otis Lee Anderson Sr., was arrested at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday. He was charged with two counts of second-degree murder. He will be seen in court Tuesday at 1 p.m.

"He brought light to the campus," University Christian Head of School Heath Nivens told First Coast News on Tuesday morning about Anderson Jr. "He always had a smile. He was a great student on and off the field."

The family is of no relation to former NFL great Ottis Anderson.

Former teammates Dillon Gabriel, Marlon Williams, Tay Gowan, and Jordan Johnson wrote on Twitter out thoughts and tributes regarding Otis and the shooting.
