The next chapter in the Odell novel: What's next for Beckham?

The Cleveland Browns officially cut wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. now the controversial player has gone on the waivers list and here we explain the full picture.

How do waivers work?

When a player under contract is cut by any NFL team, he must spend a full day on the waivers list.

On this list, the 32 teams are placed in order of priority from worst to best current record in the league, so all organizations can claim Beckham during the day and when the deadline is met (in the case of Odell Beckham Jr. it is Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET), the NFL gathers all the claims and awards him to the one with the worst record.

When is the earliest that Bekcham can have new team?

Should Beckham be obtained via waivers, the team that gets him must assume his current contract with the Browns, which after a settlement is reached between Cleveland and the player, is for one year and $7.25 million, however, should no one claim Beckham by Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET, he becomes a free agent, with the power to negotiate a contract from scratch with any team.

Simply put, the earliest "OBJ" can have a team is Tuesday afternoon, and if no one claims him, then that time can be indefinite.

Lions and Saints ruled out

Uh, no

Dan Campbell

For now, according to MLive.com, the Detroit Lions, first in priority on the aforementioned waiver list, have already indicated that they will not claim the receiver.

"Uh, no," Lions head coach Dan Campbell said when asked directly about whether they will claim Beckham off waivers.

It's impossible for us

Sean Payton

Another team ruled out to acquire Beckham was the New Orelans Saints.

"The claiming deadline is today. No, it's impossible for us to put a claim in on the player," Saints head coach Sean Payton said.
