The reason why Conte would rather sign Bale over Hazard

Antonio Conte is reportedly interested in bringing Gareth Bale back to Tottenham when the Welshman's contract comes to an end next summer.

Should Spurs sign the Real Madrid forward, Bale will join the Premier League side for the third time, as he plied his trade there before joining Los Blancos and was loaned out to Tottenham last season.

According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda, Conte has already turned down the possibility to sign his former player Eden Hazard, as the Italian coach believes that the Belgium international lacks work rate.

"Daniel Levy would like to sign a Real Madrid player, but one who is always injured," Inda told El Chiringuito.

"He wanted to sign Eden Hazard, but Conte has told him 'no' because he knows him from when he coached Chelsea and says that he has little intensity and that he is not a very hard worker.

"The most striking thing is the player that Conte has asked Levy to being to London. That's Gareth Bale.

"Bale's contract runs until the end of the season, but in winter he would not be free."

The Wales international registered 16 goals and three assists in the 34 duels he disputed in his second spell at Tottenham last season.

Bale is back with Wales

Bale has hardly featured this season for Real Madrid due to an injury which has sidelined him in the first stretch of 2021/22.

However, the 32-year-old winger has joined up with the Wales national team for the November international break and he is expected to return to action for Los Blancos in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, both his future and that of Eden Hazard remain uncertain, as Real Madrid don't plan to renew Bale's deal next summer.
