Xavi wants Barcelona to renew Dembele's contract no matter what

Xavi Hernandez has been officially presented by Barcelona as their new coach and one of the matters he discussed in his press conference following the presentation at Camp Nou was Ousmane Dembele's contract situation.

The former Al Sadd coach is aiming to help Dembele rediscover his form and believes that the Frenchman's contract renewal is a priority for the club, as his player's current deal runs until next summer and no agreement has been reached between the two parties on a potential extension.

"It's very clear for me that Dembele must continue at Barcelona," Xavi told the press conference.

"He can be the best player in the world in his position as a winger and we have to help him achieve it. He is a footballer who can make the difference at Barcelona. His renewal is a priority.

"You have to help him so that he does not get injured. We have to help him with injury prevention so that he does not have more [injuries] and [do it] with work in the gym."

During the press conference, Xavi also made it clear he wants his team to play with wingers who can provide Barcelona with width, while also being capable of creating danger in front of their opponents goal and Dembele is a player who possesses both the aforementioned virtues.
