A milestone for the Suns: First time they've won 18 games in a row

The Phoenix Suns reached a milestone in franchise history by surpassing the team's longest winning streak at 18 games with a 114-103 home win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night.

The Suns surpassed the feat accomplished with the 2006-2007 team, a team led by Steve Nash, Shawn Marrion, Amare Stoudemire, etc... that finished the season with a 61-21 record.

Devin Booker did not play

In the game against Detroit, Phoenix was without star player Devin Booker, who was out with a left hamstring injury during last Wednesday's resounding win over the Golden State Warriors.

The team's leaders without Booker, point guard Chris Paul and power forward Deandre Ayton, each posted double-doubles, Paul with 12 points and 12 assists, and Ayton with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

However, the leading scorers for the desert team were namesakes Cameron Payne and Cameron Johnson with 19 points.

Still far from the Lakers of 1971-1972

I haven't talked about streaks

Monty Williams

The Suns' 18 wins in a row is still far from the NBA record held by the 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers who did not lose for 33 games in a row.

"I haven't talked about streaks of any kind just because we have been so focused on improving," Suns coach Monty Williams said. "But it is really cool to be a part of something like that."

The Suns led by as many as 18 points but the Pistons came from behind in the third period, but Phoenix was able to hold on and secure the win.

This matchup was one of contrasts, as the Suns put their record at 19-3 (best in the entire NBA) and the Pistons fell to 4-18 (worst in the entire NBA).

What's next?

The Phoenix Suns will play their third game in consecutive days as they return to the court this Friday and look to avoid a Golden State Warriors rematch in San Francisco.

The Detroit Pistons will not play until next Monday when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder.
