From zero to hero: How Jovic turned his fortunes around

Luka Jovic was at the heart of Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on December 4, as he gave a performance the club expected when signing him back in 2019.

His journey has been rather complicated since making the 60 million euros move from Eintracht Frankfurt two years ago.

His goal and assist against Real Sociedad extended the clubs run at the top of LaLiga Santander.

A Real prison

During the 2018/19 Bundesliga season Jovic scored 27 goals and made himself one of the hottest prospects in Europe at that time.

When arriving at Real Madrid he took a while to settle and recurring injuries did little by the way of giving him a running start at Los Blancos.

Then during the start of the pandemic the striker was seen in Serbia visiting his girlfriend whilst being threatened with imprisonment from the country's officials, straining relations with his club further.

Injury setbacks

Aside from the off-field antics, his injuries and general ill health have nullified him at times.

The striker suffered from COVID-19, gastroenteritis and multiple knocks which has seen him miss a lot of football for the side.

These constant hurdles saw the striker return to Frankfurt last season, as he scored 4 times in 18 appearances.

A new opportunity

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti put his faith in Jovic for their game against high-flying Real Sociedad, with Madrid needing a win to maintain their momentum in their hunt for the title.

Jovic was influential, scoring and assisting Vinicius in their 2-0 win.

After news of Karim Benzema's injury, it looks like Jovic will not leave in January and has a great opportunity to perform at the level required to make a name for himself at Real Madrid after such a disappointing start.
