Haaland and Werner are Manchester United's top transfer targets

It's a new era at Manchester United, with Ralf Rangnick taking over the dugout on an interim basis and with the club looking to rebalance the squad in the upcoming transfer markets. The German and his colleagues are already trying to improve the club's attack, with Erling Haaland and Timo Werner emerging as targets.

Rangnick will move upstairs at Old Trafford after his time as interim coach, so he is thinking about the long term and he wants to add youth and speed to the front line, to complement the goalscoring prowess of Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Bild, the top two names on the wish list are Haaland and Werner, two strikers Rangnick knows very well.

In the case of Haaland, Rangnick helped bring the Norwegian to RB Salzburg in 2019, so there is hope at Manchester United that this connection can work in their favour. In the British press, there is already talk of an offer of 118 million euros to Borussia Dortmund for Haaland.

With Werner, who Rangnick coached at RB Leipzig, there is a realisation that it would be difficult to convince Chelsea to strengthen a domestic rival, but the German hasn't had the impact that the Blues were hoping for at Stamford Bridge and might be moved on.

Exits at Manchester United

If Manchester United do secure the services of one or both of Haaland and Werner, they would have to move some players on as they already have so many options for their attack.

With Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial, there would be a need to sell or to loan some of these players out, with this possibly helping to fund what would be very costly transactions to sign Haaland or Werner.

Over the coming months, it certainly seems like there will be a lot of activity at Manchester United.
