Lamelo Ball NBA Hornets: Ball cleared of COVID protocols, will practice with G League

The Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball has passed NBA health and safety protocols, but will not play Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs.

Ball was one of several Hornets who entered COVID protocols over the last week and a half.

The Hornets assigned last year's NBA Rookie of the Year to practice with the G League's Greensboro Swarm on Wednesday after missing five games.

"LaMelo Ball has been cleared from the NBA's Health and Safety Protocols and has been assigned to the @greensboroswarm for a conditioning and rehab assignment. Ball will join Jalen McDaniels and Mason Plumlee at practice with the Greensboro Swarm today", the Hornets wrote on Twitter.

Without LaMelo, the Hornets have lost three of five games and play their next game on Wednesday against the Spurs.

The Hornets get pieces back

At this time, it is unclear if Ball will rejoin the Hornets for their Friday night game at Portland.

All five Charlotte players that were initially placed in the NBA's health and safety protocols have now been cleared to return to action.

Guard Terry Rozier, forward Jalen McDaniels and center Mason Plumlee are available to play against the Spurs. Plumlee is listed as probable with a rib injury. Guard Ish Smith has also been cleared to rejoin.
