Late Masuaku strike hands West Ham crucial Chelsea triumph

West Ham United strengthened their top four credentials with a memorable 3-2 comeback victory over Chelsea at the London Stadium on Saturday. The Hammers came from behind twice before a late Arthur Masuaku

winner secured the victory and opened up a four-point gap between themselves and Arsenal in fifth place.

After a cagey opening, the game burst into life with 28 minutes on the clock as Thiago Silva met Mason Mount's outswinging corner with a firm header beyond Lukasz Fabianski.

West Ham had a golden opportunity to restore parity 10 minutes later, as they were awarded a penalty after Edouard Mendy brought Jarrod Bowen in the box, and Manuel Lanzini made no mistake with an emphatic finish.

The visitors regained the lead just before half time, as a quick counter attack saw Hakim Ziyech play a lofted ball to Mount who was on hand to guide home a magnificent volley.

However, the hosts were level again 11 minutes after the restart as a ball on the edge of the area was pounced on by Bowen, before he unleashed an unstoppable strike into the far corner.

The comeback was complete with three minutes of normal time remaining, as Masuaka picked up the ball on the left wing before catching Mendy out with a dipping effort into the top corner.
