Real Madrid and PSG flying higher than European rivals

Real Madrid are proving to be the dominant force in LaLiga Santander this season, in a way that they haven't done in many years, whilst Paris Saint-Germain stand as their only equals in the major European leagues.

Los Blancos hold a seven-point advantage over Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad, whilst PSG are 12 points ahead of Marseille having lost just once in Ligue 1 this season.

Very few clubs are dominating their leagues in a similar way across the continent, with the level of competition much tighter in both England and Germany.

The Premier League is unusually close

After years of one-team dominating the league every season of late, with Manchester City and Liverpool splitting title wins, there is an uncharacteristic three horse race for the championship between City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel has rejuvenated the title race, adding Chelsea into the mix, with all three teams within three points of each other after 14 points.

Bayern Munich are no longer unchallenged in Germany

Bayern Munich are due to face Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, yet the title race is much tighter than usual with Marco Rose's charges actually sitting just one point behind the Bavarian giants.

Dortmund haven't won the title since Jurgen Klopp was in charge in 2011/12, but are now serious contenders, even with Erling Haaland having missed a month of action.

Serie A is open

Juventus can probably be considered out of the title race at this juncture, yet there is a huge battle going on between Napoli, AC Milan, Inter and Atalanta with regards to the Scudetto for this season.

Napoli are looking to win their first title since the days of Diego Maradona, and are top with 36 points but they have a number of first-team injuries.

Milan are one point behind and Inter are two behind, with the Milanese rivals looking to take advantage of any slip-up by Luciano Spalletti's side.

Ajax are dominating, but not as much as usual

In the Dutch Eredivisie, Ajax are the outstanding team, but their lead at the top of the table isn't as wide as expected. In 15 matches they have 36 points whereas Feyenoord are close behind with 32.

Portuguese Primeira Liga will be a fight

Porto and Sporting CP are joint-top with 32 points after 12 games, whilst the Benfica are one point behind after playing the same number of games.

Sporting CP were able to win their first title since 2002 in 2020/21 and under Ruben Amorim they are providing a real challenge to their rivals.
