Novak Djokovic back in custody and returned to infamous quarantine hotel

Novak Djokovic, whose visa in Australia was cancelled for a second time on Friday, has been arrested and transferred to the Park Hotel Melbourne.

The world number one arrived at the hotel, which is used to house immigrants and where he was already detained on January 6, wearing a green tracksuit and an FFP2 mask.

The Serbian has been given permission to meet with his lawyers to discuss an appeal over the Australian immigration minister Alex Hawke's decision to revoke his entry permit to the country on Friday. The tennis star left the lawyers' office at 14:45 local time and returned to the hotel used by immigration authorities.

Final Djokovic decision to be made this Saturday (European time)

Djokovic will spend the night in the hotel detention centre, which is famed for its poor living conditions, and will have his case heard at 09:30 local time this Sunday (22:30 GMT on Saturday).

The case could result in the deportation of the 34-year-old, which would of course mean he will not be able to participate in the upcoming Australian Open that starts on Monday.

Djokovic's first match is set to be against his countryman Miomir Kecmanovic.
