Tom Brady's farewell to the NFL: Reasons for the GOAT's possible retirement

Actualizado

Tom Brady had not lost an NFL Divisional Round playoff game since the 2010 season, it took 11 seasons for that to happen, the game was epic, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tied the game after trailing by 24 points at some point in the third quarter, but lost it with a Matt Gay field goal on the last play of regular time.

Will this be the last game in the career of what many consider to be the greatest player of all time?

Brady thinks about retirement

Before the game, the 44-year-old passer talked about retirement, although he did not give a definitive answer.

"I felt like then that was a great goal to set and I still have that goal of wanting to get to 45," Brady said. "We'll see how it goes. I think I'm pretty much in [uncharted] territory."

Brady's contract with the Bucs was signed for two seasons after playing the first 20 of his illustrious career with the New England Patriots.

Why not retire?

In a blunt fact that part of the motivation for the career of the only player to win the Super Bowl seven times has been to prove to all the doubters that he can do what no one else can do and playing at age 45 (which he turns 45 on August 3, 2002, before the start of next season), must be something that motivates him to keep playing.

In addition, the Buccaneers suffered a myriad of injuries throughout the season and, for the game against Los Angeles, among many others, were without two of their main weapons from the beginning of the year, receivers Chris Godwin due to injury and Antonio Brown for the known indiscipline at the end of the season that cost him to be cut by Tampa Bay.

So with those and other weapons back, Brady may not be told to say goodbye.

Why retire?

On the other hand, the quarterback has been critical more than once of the extension of a regular-season game, a symptom that he may be tired of the grind of being a professional athlete.

One more year implies for virtually every human being on the planet at his age declining performance, also his own productivity declined in the second half of the year and his numbers in his last game were among the worst in his postseason career.

The decision is in Tom Brady's head and it is certainly an announcement that the sports world is eagerly awaiting, one last dance or say goodbye now, we will have to wait to find out.
