Bayern Munich found to have 12 players on the pitch in win over Freiburg

Bayern Munich were guilty of having 12 players on the pitch for a few moments during their 4-1 win over Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday, leading to doubts about whether the result will stand or not.

The error occurred in the 85th minute, with Bayern already 3-1 ahead. A double substitution was made, but only one player went off the pitch, leaving the Bavarians a man up.

Sport Bild suggest that the win could be taken away from Bayern, with a possible points deduction too.

By the time the error took place, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman had put them 3-1 up after Nils Petersen had cancelled out Leon Goretzka's opener. Julian Nagelsmann decided to take off both Coman and Corentin Tolisso, the latter having come on 20 minutes earlier, but only one player left the pitch.

In the 87th minute, VAR informed the referee of the situation and the game was stopped. Several moments of confusion ensued, and in the end the game restarted and eight minutes were added, though the case is unlikely to have ended there.

Marcel Sabitzer, one of those introduced in the double switch, scored Bayern's fourth in the 96th minute.
