NBA Playoffs: Towns outduels Morant to tie Timberwolves-Grizzlies series

The Minnesota Timberwolves clawed out a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night at Target Center to tie the First Round Playoffs series at two apiece. At the start of the third quarter, a woman stormed the court and quickly got tackled by security before getting dragged off the floor.

Karl-Anthony Towns finally performed admirably after underwhelming statlines in the past two games of this Western Conference series. Towns finished the night with 33 points and 14 rebounds, only getting outscored by Desmond Bane of the Grizzlies, who put up one more point than KAT.

Ja Morant, meanwhile, went cold from the field, shooting an overall 4-for-13 and 0-for-2 from beyond the arc. Morant only scored 11 points, but added 15 assists and eight rebounds to make up for his lack of offensive output.

Five Timberwolves score double-figures

Unfortunately for Memphis, that was not enough to get a 3-1 lead in the series, and instead will head back home for Game 5 on Tuesday with the possibility of going down 2-3. Besides Bane and Morant, Dillon Brooks, Brandon Clarke and Tyus Jones each reached double-figures in points for the Grizzlies.

For the Timberwolves, five players besides KAT finished the night with double-digit scoring, including Anthony Edwards (24), Patrick Beverley (17), Jordan McLaughlin (16), Jarred Vanderbilt (12) and D'Angelo Russell (10). Despite having a 15-point lead at one point, the home side still had to suffer down the stretch, but a missed game-tying 3-pointer by Jones sealed the victory for Minnesota.

The Timberwolves finished the first quarter leading by five points and went into the break up by four. They went into the final frame leading by six points and edged out their opponents despite getting outscored by five in the last 12 minutes of play.
