Ten Hag to force Cristiano Ronaldo out of Manchester United

Erik ten Hag is reportedly going to move Cristiano Ronaldo out of Manchester United in the summer. The Portuguese forward may have departed anyway, but now it appears the incoming coach is determined to end the love story between the No.7 and the Red Devils.

The current Ajax box has agreed a deal in principle to take charge at Old Trafford at the end of the current season, when Ralf Rangnick's interim spell comes to an end.

According to The Daily Star, he has made it clear to the club hierarchy that Ronaldo is not part of his plans as he does not suit his style of play.

A rollercoaster comeback for Cristiano Ronaldo

The football world was stunned last summer as the Portuguese forward completed a sensational return to Manchester United and it looked as though he could be the man to end United's trophy drought.

The 37-year-old made a blistering start, as he won the Premier League Player of the Month for September and scored crucial goals against Villarreal and Atalanta to help United advance past the Champions League group stage.

However, his Old Trafford comeback has turned into a nightmare, as United will finish the season without a trophy for the fifth season in a row, currently sitting in seventh place in the Premier League table.

While Ronaldo is his side's top scorer with 18 goals so far this campaign, he has found the back of the net just four times in his last 13 appearances and he has struggled to keep his starting place in Rangnick's side.

Ronaldo has grown increasingly disillusioned with life at Old Trafford since the turn of the year and he met with his agent Jorge Mendes in March to assess his options for next season.

It appears that his fate has been decided for him by United's incoming coach, who has cited his age and status as a luxury player as key reasons for not wanting to work with him once he takes charge in the summer. The race to sign Ronaldo for 2022/23 is, therefore, now on.
