The strange illness affecting Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic is suffering from an illness, although it's not clear exactly what it is.

The Serbian has ruled that it is COVID-19, stating that it is something that affects his metabolism.

"It's not coronavirus, I don't want to give more details, but it's something that affects my metabolism," Novak Djokovic explained after losing in the Belgrade ATP 250 final defeat to Andrey Rublev 2-6, 7-6, 0-6.

"It's worrying to have that feeling on the court. I didn't feel tired until the end of the second set. The 5-4 game was a long game and that's when I started to not feel good.

"It also happened to me in Monte Carlo," Djokovic confessed in a press conference.

During the match, the Serbian showed numerous signs of fatigue. He even used several ice towels when he went to the chair during the breaks between games.

"It had never happened to me before, the same in the early stages of my career, but first Monte Carlo and then here. So I think it's related to the illness I went through, which was something hard physically and also to my health," Djokovic said without giving further details.

Djokovic's defeat to Rublev was his third in 2022 after the ones he suffered against Davidovich (Monte Carlo) and Vesely (Dubai).

'Nole' will have his next ATP tour date at the Mutua Madrid Open.
