Canelo gets another threat: Ryan Garcia says he's better than him with a condition

Ryan Garcia assured that he will make the jump as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world even over Saul "Canelo" Alvarez if he manages to arrange a fight against Gervonta Davis and manages to defeat him.

"Over Canelo, over everybody. I swear to you. I promise you. That's how it will be. It would be monumental," said the Mexican-American fighter in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

Who will Ryan Garcia fight?

For now, on July 16, Ryan Garcia will face Javier Fortuna in Los Angeles, California. Previously, he easily defeated Emmanuel Tagoe on April 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, by unanimous decision on cards of 119-108, 118-109 and 119-108.

For several years, Garcia has been trying to organize this fight against Gervonta Davis and even the two agreed to face each other, but the fight fell through when "King Ryan" began to negotiate with Manny Pacquiao. However, the Mexican American is still looking for the fight.

Ryan Garcia's words

"Golden Boy won't be able (to prevent it). They can't, I won't allow it. There is no way. I will go to war to fight 'Tank'. I'm ready, at the end of the day it's the fight where I'll get respect and I deserve it," said Garcia.

He also spoke with Leonard Ellerbe, president of Mayweather Promotions, in search of concretizing this possible fight against Gervonta.

"I'm ready for the challenge. I'm very confident that I can beat him. He's a great fighter, don't get me wrong. But I'm a much, much better fighter and I want to show everyone what I do and that's the fight to make. Everybody wants to see it and I'm ready now," said Garcia.

Oscar de la Hoya agrees with Ryan Garcia

For his part, Oscar de la Hoya, who was "Canelo's" promoter for almost a decade and now works with Ryan Garcia, assures that he is ready to succeed him on the throne as the best of all time.

"I feel like I have a unique perspective after going through what I went through," De La Hoya told Bleacher Report. "I can tell a fighter what to do and what not to do, what works and what doesn't."

"When you tell him something, he listens. He's a 23-year-old kid who listens to what you have to say, pays attention to it and wants to learn. That's a valuable commodity. He listens to me. He listens to Golden Boy executive Bernard Hopkins. He values what we say.

When could the Garcia vs. Davis fight happen?

"He has a lot of advantages. The fact that he's already so well known is absolutely important and will help him increase his popularity. He can turn a lot of people into boxing fans who wouldn't be," said the "Golden Boy" about the young fighter who has a record of 22 wins, no losses and 18 knockouts.

De La Hoya suggested that the fight against Gervonta Davis could happen in the next 12 months and also said that a fight with Garcia is feasible regardless of whether Gervonta is represented by Mayweather, although it could be much easier if the fighter decides to become a free agent, as he has a complicated relationship with "Money," and negotiates his own deals.
