Jermall Charlo suffers injury, postpones middleweight title fight vs. Maciej Sulecki

Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) suffered an injury and won't be fighting Maciej Sulecki (30-2, 11 KOs) on June 18 as previously scheduled, Showtime announced Monday.

Charlo, 32, was ready to defend his middleweight title against Sulecki in his hometown of Houston, Texas, but the fight was postponed due to the champion suffering a back injury during training. Charlo, whose twin brother is undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo, hasn't fought in a year.

Charlo vs. Sulecki to be rescheduled

Charlo had his last fight in June 2021, a victory over Juan Macias Montiel. He was in talks to fight Jaime Munguia before negotiations collapsed and the PBC ultimately managed to set up a fight against Sulecki, who lost his last two fights.

Charlo will now have to extend his layoff to over a year in light of the injury. The fight against the 32-year-old fringe contender from Poland will be rescheduled once Charlo can resume training, according to the network.
