LeBron James new contract update: Drama begins over "The King's" future

Thursday marked the beginning of the drama that will represent the negotiation of a contract extension of legendary player LeBron James with the Los Angeles Lakers, as the "King" lived through the first day of eligibility to agree with the 17-time NBA champion team and wasted no time.

According to a report from ESPN's Dave McMenamin, James and his agent Rich Paul met with Lakers president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka to begin talks to reach an agreement, which was positive, however, it seems the story will not have an end soon.

LeBron James, in no hurry to sign a new contract

The "King" is in no hurry to sign a new contract, since the current agreement he has with the Lakers expires on June 30, 2023, if he has not signed an extension by then, he would become a free agent, then he could sign with another team.

While offseason talk regarding the Lakers has centered on Russell Westbrook's continuity with the team, that topic may begin to shift to LeBron James' continuity, given the second-leading scorer in NBA history's history of changing teams.

LeBron James' dream of playing with his son Bronny

Last season, the Lakers missed the playoffs in the Western Conference, even failing to make the playoffs, which was the biggest disappointment of the season, so coach Frank Vogel was fired and Darvin Ham took his place.

LeBron James has commented on several occasions that his intention is to play at least one season in the NBA with his son Bronny, in any team, perhaps that will be one of the main issues in the negotiation of a new contract with the Lakers.

For the time being, we will have to wait.
