Bayern Munich run riot against Viktoria Plzen

Bayern Munich continued their perfect start to the Champions League group stage by thrashing Czech champions Viktoria Plzen 5-0 in Bavaria.

The Bavarians were rampant, racking up the goals almost at will, while keeping their defensive record intact. Bayern have yet to concede in this year's competition.

The German side raced into 3-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes, thanks to goals from Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Sadio Mane.

The opener was a terrific solo effort from Sane, who picked the ball up just inside the Viktoria half and played a one-two with Jamal Musiala before dancing away from several defenders and letting rip from the edge of the area. The keeper was helpless as the ball sailed past him.

Mane's effort for number three was equally if not more impressive, flipping the ball over his head to get away from two before a kind break of the ball allowed him to burst past four more and finish. Great speed and perseverance from the Senegalese forward.

After the break, Sane showed great technique to bring the ball down before finishing to make it 4-0 after a good run in behind.

The scoring was done before the hour mark, although the game had been over for a long time by then. Leon Goretzka found Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in space and the substitute finished emphatically into the top corner.

Next up for Bayern is the small matter of a trip to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, before they travel to Plzen, hoping for more of what we saw from them tonight.

A win could all but seal qualification - and likely top spot in the group - before even having to play Barcelona and Inter a second time.
