Lewandowski: Benzema is likely to win the Ballon d'Or... if they don't cancel it

Robert Lewandowski considers Karim Benzema the overwhelming favorite to win the Ballon d'Or this year. The Polish player, however, does not forget how a couple of seasons ago he missed out on the award due to the coronavirus.

In an interview with #Vamos, the Barcelona goalscorer recalled his pain at the Ballon d'Or snub, as well as discussing Los Cules' current campaign.

Robert Lewandowski reveals Ballon d'Or hurt

After missing out on the award in such difficult circumstances, the Barcelona forward admitted he hopes the same doesn't happen to Benzema in 2022.

"The Ballon d'Or is likely to be won by Benzema... if they don't cancel it," he joked.

Bouncing back from Inter draw

Barcelona's 3-3 draw with Inter was a hammer blow to the club's Champions League campaign, yet Lewandowski is convinced his team will bounce back.

"After a bad game you have to face reality in the best way, show that you can play good football and win," he detailed.

"It's a bit of a difficult moment but we know we have the opportunity in the Clasico, to go out there and win the game."

The Clasico

Real Madrid await Barcelona in their next game, with the hope of supporters at a low following the midweek result.

Los Blancos are very strong, but Lewandowski wants his team to use the scale of the match to their advantage.

"After the disappointment of the Champions League game, we have the opportunity to change our mentality and that of our fans. It's a huge challenge," he confirmed.

"I think its history, everything that happens around it means it's one of the games of the year."

Lewandowski has great history against Real Madrid

Real Madrid have always suffered whenever they have faced Lewandowski.

The best performance came during his Borussia Dortmund career, when he scored the goals which knocked Los Merengues out of the Champions League.

"To score four goals in a Champions League semi-final, it must be one of the best games of my life, if not one of the best in the history of the Champions League," he added.
