Anthony Davis breaks silence on Brittney Griner as LeBron James echoes sentiment

Following the Los Angeles Lakers (11-15) win over the Detroit Pistons (7-22) on Sunday, Anthony Davis finally spoke on Brittney Griner, who recently arrived to the United States after spending nearly one year in Russian custody.

Davis, 29, expressed in his postgame press conference the joy he felt when seeing that Griner, 32, was back home.

"Amazing," Davis said. "Being in Russia for as long as she was, inhumane living conditions. I think they showed the bed she was living in. When I first saw her, I didn't know it was her because she cut her dreads - I don't know if it was voluntarily or what. But it's always good to have one of your own back.

"Even though we get a chance to play this game ... we live inside this box of basketball where everything is going well, you kind of forget about everything outside. And that kind of just put us back to reality, knowing that we're blessed to do what we do every single day because there's people in this world, and our sister, who's going through much bigger things than basketball. It's good to get her home. We're glad she's here."

NBA Twitter was anxiously waiting for what Davis had to say about Griner because there's been a wild rumor over the past few years that the pair previously dated.

LeBron James, who scored a team-high 35 points against the Pistons, echoed the sentiment of Davis.

"It's amazing," James said. "Especially around the holidays, she can be with her family and get back. For us, as a brotherhood and sisterhood, we welcome her with open arms and love and support and are just happy to have her back home on U.S. soil."

Davis recorded 34 points and 15 rebounds in Detroit. Bogdan Bogdanovic scored a game-high 38 points for the Motor City.

Lakers host the Boston Celtics on Tuesday while Pistons visit the Charlotte Hornets.
