Belichick's worst nightmare: Pats lose due to unnecessary last-second lateral

The score was tied 24-24 and the clock in the 4th quarter is at 00:00, Rhamondre Stevenson has the ball in Raiders territory (around the 30-yard line) and has nowhere to go. The New England running back laterals the ball back to receiver Jakobi Meyers in case a miracle play can clich the win for New England.

Meyers then proceeds to throw a high lateral pass towards Mac Jones, and it turns out to be the most costly mistake possible. Former Patriot Chandler Jones catches it, stiff arms Jones and runs from midfield to secure a last second TD and a win for the Raiders.

Belichick, a risk hater, was fuming after the play

Bill Belichick, who hates unnecessary risk in general is likely fuming. The Patriots coach is known to have benched runners in the past merely for stretching out their arms to break the plane of the goal line.

Once the play concluded, his expressionless self knew his team (now 7-7) is facing a much more challenging scenario if it doesn't want to be out of the playoffs again for the second time in the past three seasons.

With the bizarre play, the Las Vegas Raiders scooped a 30-24 victory over the Patriots on Sunday.
