Cowboys score record 33 points in 4th quarter in shocking win

The Dallas Cowboys had just 21 points after three full quarters of the Sunday Night Football game against the Indianapolis Colts, then the defense stepped up to a simply unstoppable level and swept Matt Ryan for "America's Team" to score a franchise-record 33 points in the fourth period to take an outrageous 54-19 win.

Dallas cowboys QB Prescott on hand injury: Just another bump in the road

In total the Dallas defense generated five turnovers, three of them interceptions to Ryan, plus three sacks and the 33 fourth-period points are the second-highest total in the final 15 minutes of regular time in all of NFL history.

On offense, Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes, however, he only accumulated 170 yards on 20 of 30 completed passes, in addition to one interception, but the key was the powerful ground game that, as a whole, accumulated 220 yards on 34 carries with four end zone visits.

The team led by controversial interim head coach Jeff Saturday simply stopped struggling in the final period and criticism abounds for owner Jim Irsay's decision to fire Frank Reich three weeks ago and put in his place a legendary center of this team, but without any experience being the top strategist at the college level, much less at the NFL level.

What's next for the Cowboys and the Colts?

After this result, the Cowboys are entrenched with an extraordinary 9-3 record as the best wild card in the entire NFC and as the second place in the East Division behind the Philadelphia Eagles and their next game will be next Sunday, December 11 at home against the Houston Texans.

On the other hand, the Colts have a 4-8-1 record and are practically out of the playoffs and their next opponent will be the Minnesota Vikings on December 18, as they will have their bye week.
