Justin Verlander reportedly signs with New York Mets for two years and $86 million

Starting pitcher Justin Verlander has reportedly reached an agreement with the New York Mets for two years and $86 million with an option to extend the contract for three years.

Although the Mets have not made the transaction official, Jon Heyman of MLB Network broke the news. Verlander also reportedly met with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the one who most caught his eye was the Metropolitans.

After another tremendous season, Verlander decided to test free agency and leave his remaining one-year, $25 million contract with the Astros on the table.

In total, Verlander has pitched 17 seasons in the Major Leagues. He was named L.A. Rookie of the Year in 2006, L.A. MVP in 2011 and L.A. Cy Young in 2011, 2019 and 2022.

Verlander would replace DeGrom

A few days ago Jacob deGrom reached a five-season, $185 million deal with the Texas Rangers deal that ends his stint with the New York Mets , with whom he played since his debut in 2014.

The two-time winner of the Cy Young Award for the best pitcher in the National League and who accumulated nine seasons in the Big Apple, was the most highly rated starting pitcher in all of Major League Baseball's free agency.

Verlander would be a replacement at the right level, given that, even at 39 years of age, his performance in the mountain is still excellent.
