Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen's divorce: The QB accepts that it has been the reason for his poor performance

A little over a month ago, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady officially divorced Brazilian top model Gisele Bündchen, this has coincided with one of the 45-year-old star's worst statistical and productivity seasons, however, he had never talked about how one thing had affected the other.

For the first time, the seven-time Super Bowl winner spoke on the subject in his weekly appearance on the Let's Go! Podcast along with today's Jim Gray and special guest, legendary former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton.

Tom Brady's moving words

"I think there's so many ways for me that it just keeps great perspective for me in my life," Brady said. 'Why have I done it as long as I have? You know, physically, I've explained that and I've tried to take care of myself.

"You know, mentally, and as we talked about with Coach (Sean) Payton, there's such a drive mentally to always come up with the next great play, or the next great concept, or the next great scream."

The sentimental factor has been crucial for Tom Brady

With 13 years of marriage and two children between Brady and Bündchen, the distracting factor of affection and the emotional situation is no small matter, and for a player as accustomed to following routines as the former New England Patriots quarterback is, it has been one of the most challenging during a successful career that is about to close its 23rd season.

"And then emotionally, that's where I think as you get older the challenges really come in, you know, because we can get distracted by other parts of life and not distracted in a bad way but there's priorities that take over," Brady said. "So I've tried my best over the years to maintain what's important to me. And been very fortunate to play a sport that I love. And, as I said, why do I play? Because the competition is great."
