Jayson Tatum surpasses Larry Bird to make history at Celtics
After scoring 34 points in Boston's 120-95 win over the Indiana Pacers, Jayson Tatum has surpassed Larry Bird to become the player with the most 30-point games in an NBA season.
This was the 40th game where Tatum scores more than 30 points this NBA season. He is followed by Bird (39 games in 1987/88), John Havlicek (38 in 1970/71), Bird (37 in 1984/85) and Paul Pierce (33 in 2001/02).
Many believe that Tatum should be a candidate for the MVP award, but Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic are regarded as favourites to win the award.
Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown scored 27 points to lead Boston to the win against Indiana and Tatum hailed his teammate in the post-game press conference.
"He's a big part of this team, this franchise," Tatum noted.
"Without him, we can't reach our goal. You guys know that. The world knows that. The team knows that. We need him to be the best version of ourselves."
The two men recorded a combined 61 points and 14 rebounds against the Pacers. Meanwhile, Boston have already managed the same number of victories they had at the end of last season (51).
