NFL Draft: Best drafted players over the years and the teams that picked them

Day 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft is in the rearview mirror, and as teams continue to get ready for Rounds 2 and 3 this Friday from Kansas City, before closing out the event early this Saturday with Rounds 4 through 7.

NFL.com recently made a list about the 50 best draft picks in league's history and we dive in on their chosen top-5, with players still in the game being left out of this ranking.

5. Roger Staubach - Dallas Cowboys - 1964

Roger Staubach is a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback that was drafted in the 1964 NFL Draft in the 10th round at 129th overall who would go on to win two Super Bowl on five appearances in the game for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

He was inducted in 1985 to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

4. Brett Favre - Atlanta Falcons - 1991

Brett Favre was selected in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons who then traded him to the Green Bay Packers, a team he would take to multiple Super Bowls, managing to win Super Bowl XXXI on top of being an NFL MVP three times.

Favre has been recently under the scope for a welfare scandal he's involved in Mississippi.

3. Jim Brown - Cleveland Browns - 1957

Jim Brown is the only player drafted in the First Round of this top-5 as he was selected 6th overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 1957 NFL Draft.

Brown would go on to lead the NFL in rushing during eight of his nine seasons in the league, being named MVP three times and inducted in to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.

2. Joe Montana - San Francisco 49ers - 1979

Joe Montana was regarded during a really long time as the best quarterback that had ever played in the NFL, up until the coming of the guy who tops this ranking.

Montana won four Super Bowls, keeping a perfect record at the game for the Vince Lombardi, winning the league's MVP award three times.

He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000, coincidentally the same year that our next player was drafted.

1. Tom Brady - New England Patriots - 2000

Tom Brady was the sixth quarterback taken in the 2000 NFL Draft, when the New England Patriots selected him with the 199th overall pick in Round 6.

Brady would went on to have 10 Super Bowl appearances, winning seven Vince Lombardi Trophies, six with New England and one more after being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He's regarded as the best NFL player to have ever taken part in the league regardless of position.
