Messi won't stay at Paris Saint-Germain next season

It isn't clear which club Lionel Messi will play for next season, but what is certain is that he will not be at Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite the fact that a few months ago his renewal was on track, and the two parties even reached an agreement in principle, he then changed his mind a few weeks ago and informed the French club's directors that he was not going to continue his career in Paris.

Messi is booed by the Parc des Princes

He does not share the sporting project, not viewing it as sufficiently ambitious and competitive, and considers that his time in Ligue 1 has come to an end.

Messi does not want to stay at PSG and that stance can't be reversed, especially after what happened with his trip to Saudi Arabia and subsequent sanction.

This means the relationship between the Argentine and the club is totally broken and can't be repaired.

Where will Messi play in 2022/23?

Now, Messi must decide where wants to play next season, aware that Barcelona would like him back.

His return has become almost an obsession for Joan Laporta, who sees his departure from PSG as a push towards a return to Camp Nou, although the two decisions are not really related.

The Catalan club's board is confident that it won't take long to secure his signing and hope to have him with the squad in time for the tour of the United States at the end of July, because that way the contract would be more substantial.

His return would be a great boost for the club economically and for the fans, ahead of a season when Xavi's team will move to the Olympic Stadium at Montjuic due to the work taking place at the Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana fans are clearly keen, with Messi's name having even been chanted during the 10th minute of recent matches.

Whether he does return to the Catalan capital or not, what's clear is that his time at PSG is ending.
