Rodri is the best defensive midfielder in the world

Manchester City well and truly humbled Real Madrid on Wednesday night at the Etihad as they qualified for their second ever Champions League final.

On a historic night of big performances, Spanish midfielder Rodri was perhaps the pick of the bunch, dictating play from midfield.

Such was the dominance he helped impose that the likes of Modric and Kroos barely kicked a ball all game.

Had little to do but did make a couple of important saves to prevent any hope of a Madrid comeback.

Marked Vini Jr out the game in a manner we haven't seen anyone else do all season.

Final Mark: 9

Not a standout but steady at the back.

Final Mark: 6

The tactical role given to him by Guardiola makes him more important than his ability would suggest and he helped City dominate the midfield.

Final Mark: 7

He controlled his wing with relative ease and played a key role in the third goal.

Final Mark: 7

The man of the match. Sharp off the ball to shut down Madrid's transitions and flawless on it to maintain City's control.

Final Mark: 10

Much improved from the first leg and his creativity was a constant thorn in the side of the Madrid defence.

Final Mark: 9

Started brilliantly and popped up between the lines to great effect. Two goals no less than he deserved in the first half, although he faded a little in the second.

Final Mark: 9

His threat forced Carvajal back, although he tended to then drift inside and cause problems by linking up with the likes of Gundogan.

Final Mark: 8

He faded in and out of the game but always looked dangerous when he got involved, before appearing to tire prior to his substitution.

Final Mark: 6

On another night he could have had a hat trick, but Madrid, or rather Courtois, managed to ensure he ended his first Champions League semi-final tie without a goal.

Final Mark: 5

Helped City see out the game.

Late sub, nothing of note.

Subbed on for Haaland and put the icing on the cake with the fourth goal.

Final Mark: 7

It was another Champions League masterclass from the Catalan coach and he reaches his second final with City. On course for a Premier League and Champions League double.

Final Mark: 10
