Ansu Fati set to join Brighton on loan
Ansu Fati will not wear the Barcelona shirt again this season.
The Spanish attacker will play on loan at Brighton until June 2024.
His wish to enjoy more playing time and have a more prominent role has led to the departure of the 20-year-old.
Playing time the deciding factor
Although until recently as this week the player had refused to leave Barcelona, Ansu Fati finally agreed to packs his bags.
The young player has listened to his team, who wanted to directed him towards a change of scenery in search of more playing time.
In the three games played in La Liga, the international has not started a single match and has a total of 47 minutes: 11 against Getafe, 22 against Cadiz, and 14 in the Villarreal game.
Despite the absence of Raphinha due to suspension for two matches, Fati has not started, as Xavi Hernandez has opted to give other players a chance, like 16-year-oldLamine Yamal.
This low profile and the ostracism to which it was thought that he would be condemned during the season, have prompted him, in the last days of the transfer market, to agree to look into the offers that have come in for him.
The player has chosen Brighton, where he hopes to have a more important role than his other Premier League suitors like Liverpool and Tottenham, and be an outstanding player under Roberto de Zerbi.
Competition at Barcelona
Ansu Fati's departure was on loan, not a transfer. He will return to the Azulgranas on June 2024.
At Barcelona, as Xavi has repeated on several occasions, he is considered an asset, the club even rejected an offer of $150 million dollars for him in 2020.
Fati in fact just renewed his contract less than a year ago, until June 2027, and was protected with a clause of 1 billion dollars. But this summer things changed and he was no longer untouchable.
Fati made his first-team debut in the 19-20 season and his progression was meteoric, despite knee injuries. But his growth has been slow due to the great amount of talent in Barcelona's front line.
Since his debut, the young international has played 112 games, scored 29 goals, and provided 10 assists.
