Zach Wilson and his ghosts against the ravenous Cowboys without Aaron Rodgers
A high profile fixture against the Dallas Cowboys, and missing star man Aaron Rodgers, is the perfect opportunity for Zach Wilson to show what he's capable of for the New York Jets.
Since being drafted in 2021, Wilson has shown flashes of brilliance, but he has also struggled with consistency and is now heading into a third season.
In 2021, Wilson threw for 2,334 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, completing 55.6% of his passes.
Wilson's statistics were not impressive, but he did show some potential, and he was able to make big plays down the field and he was elusive in the pocket.
However, Wilson also made some costly mistakes in his rookie season as he overthrew open receivers and he was intercepted in key moments.
Wilson also had a tendency to hold onto the ball too long, which led to sacks.
Sitake defends Wilson
Despite the critics of Wilson's form, including many Jets fans, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake has come out to defend him.
"He's starting to look like the Zach that I know, and starting to perform that way," Sitake told The Post.
"I know one thing, with support and love and belief, that kid will flourish. I've seen him do that.
"I know there's a lot of people that are criticizing him. I will just tell you, give the kid a chance, man. Give the kid a chance.
"He's talented, he's gifted. He needs some mentoring, and he needs the belief and trust, and I promise you he will deliver."
Jets vs Cowboys
The New York Jets travel to take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season, and the Cowboys are favored by 9.5 points, but the Jets are a young team on the rise.
The Jets' defense is led by linebacker C.J. Mosley and safety Jordan Whitehead, while the Jets also have a talented group of young defensive linemen, including Carl Lawson and Quinnen Williams.
The Cowboys are led by quarterback Dak Prescott, who is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
He is also surrounded by a talented group of offensive weapons, including wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, and running back Ezekiel Elliott.
