Victor Wembanyama exceeds expectations as Spurs dismiss Heat in preseason
Victor Wembanyama, the first overall draft pick, exceeded expectations in his second NBA preseason contest on Friday, a 120-104 San Antonio Spurs victory over the Miami Heat at Frost Bank Center.
Wembanyama, 19, has entered the league as the most anticipated prospect since LeBron James, but expectations subdued as of late, so not many expected his incredible performance on Friday. He finished with a game-high 23 points in 23 minutes of action.
The Spurs rookie also added an impressive three blocks and four assists, but only grabbed four rebounds.
Wemby had his most impressive performance to date, but still has plenty to improve.
Victor Wembanyama's areas of opportunity
Wembanyama is an incredible dribbler, and not just for a big man, plus he can hit shots from anywhere in the court, though still needs some practice when it comes to 3-pointers.
The 7-foot-3 phenom shot 1-for-5 from beyond the arc, so he went nearly perfect from inside, going 10-for-15 from the field overall.
Wemby will also need to focus on rebounding, especially offensively, seeing as his four boards were on the defensive side. Spurs host the Houston Rockets on Monday for another preseason contest.
